Girls Going Beyond the Block Initiative

Helping girls go from the neighborhood to the nations, with knowledge and confidence.

This initiative offers girls transformative travel experiences that are both fun and deeply educational.

Through carefully curated weekend getaways and cultural immersion trips, participants will:

  • Explore the world beyond their immediate environment, gaining exposure to different lifestyles, communities, and ways of thinking.

  • Learn through experience, by visiting historical landmarks, cultural institutions, and unique regions such as the Gullah-Geechee corridor along the Southeast coast.

  • Build global and economic awareness, understanding how geography, history, and culture intersect in shaping opportunity and identity.

  • Gain travel literacy and safety, learning how to plan, pack, move through airports or cities, stay safe in unfamiliar places, navigate new environments with confidence and independence, and prepare for both domestic and international travel requirements such as TSA/security procedures, passport and ID use, and basic language or cultural etiquette.

  • Participate in joyful, memory-making moments, including beach days, food tastings, creative workshops, and sightseeing adventures designed to inspire and uplift.

These trips advance our Humanity-Driven Initiatives by providing preventive support: teaching essential safety skills and awareness for traveling in unfamiliar environments, helping girls build confidence to navigate the world securely, and fostering resilience through cultural empathy and self-awareness. This education helps girls move beyond mere survival toward a future rooted in possibility, agency, and joy.

Purpose:

Helping girls go from the neighborhood to the nations — with knowledge and confidence.
This program offers girls ages 14–19 transformative travel experiences that are both fun and deeply educational. Over the course of 7 weeks, participants gain practical travel literacy skills, cultural awareness, navigation know-how, and safety preparedness. From learning how to pack smart and read interstate signs, to navigating airports and practicing real-world safety drills, girls develop the tools to travel independently and confidently. The program culminates in a cultural immersion trip, followed by a community presentation to share their experiences, insights, and personal growth.

The purpose of this program is to bridge opportunity gaps for girls who may not have access to structured, safe, and empowering travel education. By combining cultural exploration with practical skills, we equip participants to navigate the world with confidence, curiosity, and awareness.
