Our Purpose & Why

Strong – minded, resilient, dedicated and hungry. This describes the Founder and Executive Director of Girl Life Unlimited. She has transformed the meaning of “young and restless” and taken it to a new level by pouring her heart, desire, and passion into preparing girls between ages of 8 – 19 to win, through her mentorship program and curriculum.

Her name is Keonna Farmer, she grew up on the east side of town in Birmingham, AL. At the age of 10 Keonna began playing basketball. Little did she know that entering into this game would literally shape and mold the trajectory of her next 14 years as a basketball player.

Throughout these well invested years of her life, Keonna’s late mother taught her the meaning of no wasted opportunities. She constantly reminded her to stay ahead in her academics and career goals. Her mother and several of her coaches poured into her the meaning of work ethic, discipline, giving back, loyalty, perseverance, networking, and staying family oriented.

Keonna understands the value of a support system, mentorship, and hands-on training. She recognized throughout her journey that there were key elements missing in some people’s life to help them properly navigate through the high school and college world of sports, academia, community and career life. There were constant reminders of the gaps and the missing links needed to help prepare the youth for the potential opportunities available to them.

She has seen many miss the mark. and opportunities to pursue college sports for a number of hindrances. From lack of proper guidance on schools best suited for their talent and interests., misinformation d decisions versus emotional based decisions.

This led to many becoming lost and unprepared on what to do next. This is when she decided to be a part of the solution. This is the space in her life that marks the birth of Girl Life Unlimited.
